Who is Tim Ondra?
Tim Ondra has been part of the Philadelphia hockey community since 1976. Starting his love of hockey in the street, he quickly turned to ice and started honing his skills as an ice hockey goalie. Tim played for North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, then moved on to the Philadelphia Junior Flyers. After 3 successful seasons, his journey took him to Iowa where he played for the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL. Unfortunately, an ankle injury cut his junior career short and he returned to the Philadelphia area. His hockey career was extended when the Philadelphia Flyers Alumni team picked him up which enabled him to play for 8 years in charity games all over the world.
Tim's Angle
The position of goaltender is extremely difficult. Most people will say " Oh, that is such an easy position, all they do is just stand there." I have spent the last 20 years dispelling these type of thoughts about goalies. Goalies must be able to concentrate, react quickly, skate well and most of all stop the puck! But how do you do all that? I discovered over my years of playing that there wasn't enough help for such a difficult position. My goal when I started was to help my fellow goalies understand the position better, teach them the skill sets necessary to be successful and most of all have fun and enjoy the position as much as I did!
The training center was designed to provide goalies with the one on one instruction goalies desperately need. The synthetic ice surface has made this possible by keeping the costs down while still providing excellent instruction. The surface provides a lifelike feel to skating and sliding but also gives the goalie a tremendous workout that only synthetic ice offers.
